We've hit a lucky streak lately, where we have enjoyed survived experienced a few restaurant meals with the kids without having to cover our faces, rush out, apologize to the staff and other diners, lose our minds, make unrealistic threats, or bribe with lollipops (holypops, as Luke says).
So it seems that--right now--as long as we have the appropriate snacks and entertainment, and the kids aren't too tired, dining out actually works. Of course, we pretty much always end up asking for speed delivery of the check...but what can we expect!?
